Melamine in Children's Dishes
Posted September 24th, 2008 by beckysamIt's horrific that melamine was added to baby formula in China, causng several deaths and hundreds of thousands more children to be sickened by this chemical. Does anyone know if this is the same chemical that children's dishes are sometimes made of? You know, those dishes with our kid's favorite characters on them? Is anyone aware of if this same chemical can leach into our children's food and drink using these dishes? And can it cause kidney problems like the affected children in China? If so, it seems to me it should be undergoing serious scrutiny, as has BPA.

I know you can't microwave the dishes. They warp and release chemicals into the food. I've also read they don't recommend washing them in a dishwasher. I plan on using ceramic and enamel coated dishes so I don't have to worry about it.
